Leelanau County is one of four federally approved viticultural areas (AVA's) with more than 1000 acres planted in wine grapes. Classic European Varieties such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir as well as hybrids like Vignoles, Traminette and de Chaunac are all grown on the peninsula. Our cool climate, rich soil and unique geography of a peninsula surrounded by the temperate waters of Lake Michigan create the perfect conditions for growing quality grapes.
Leelanau Peninsula Wines are features at events such as Taste of Leelanau, the Leland Wine Festival, the Leelanau Peninsula Food & Wine Festival and the Suttons Bay Blues Festival.
